I have been involved in various aspects of English language teaching for over 20 years, teaching and managing academic departments and schools in Japan, China as well as in the UK.  Along the way, I have gained DELTA and MEd qualifications after completing my initial degree in Geography and Planning in my hometown of Glasgow, Scotland. I have been fortunate enough to work, travel and study abroad and I am passionate about providing support to international students to ensure their studies are as successful as can be!

Berlin

Based in Berlin but originally from Bath, I have a degree in English and Master’s of Education. I have worked as an English for Academic Purposes teacher, sociolinguistics lecturer, examiner and a business communication trainer across many countries in Europe. Having lived in France, Spain, Turkey and Germany, I’ve developed a real passion for languages. Currently, I’m learning Hungarian and find it refreshingly challenging to learn a language from scratch!

Originally from Liverpool, I have had careers in dentistry, acting, broadcasting and teaching. I lived in Oman for 12 years, then Spain for 7 before coming back to the lovely county of Staffordshire about 5 years ago. I have degrees in English Language and 19th Century Literature, and my Master's is in Applied Linguistics. My specialisation is in discourse analysis but more recently, I have been focusing on academic writing skills and some of the challenges faced by students. I speak Spanish, French and Catalan, and have been learning Welsh since I got married 30 years ago. So far, I can only ask for ‘ 4 fish and chips’ with any confidence, but I can buy a train ticket to that really long place near Anglesey.

Description/bio: Born and raised in the USA, I’ve been teaching English for Academic Purposes in Berlin since 2017. My experience seeing students often struggle with writing at the university lead me to complete a Master’s in Academic Writing Development and Research in 2021. Before becoming a teacher, I worked in documentary film and television in New York City. Today, I enjoy working with university students to explore issues of language, identity and technology.
