I’m a great believer in the fact that with the right support, guidance, and encouragement everybody can achieve their academic potential. Hello, I’m Lauren and I am the Senior Academic Skills Tutor based at Arden’s Manchester Centre. I have over ten years' experience of working in learning environments and specialise specifically in Education and Disability Studies. I am currently studying a Education Doctorate at Liverpool Hope University, with my research focusing around inequalities within Higher Education and its impacts on disabled students. As someone who currently studies whilst working full time, I am aware of the difficulties in transitioning (and returning) to academic writing and aim to support you in improving your confidence and making writing more enjoyable, whilst providing you with some useful hints and tips so that you can get the most out of your studies! No question is a silly question and I am always happy to help so feel free to get in touch or make an appointment.
Hi, I'm Hannah-Freya, the Academic Skills Tutor based in Leeds. I have several years of experience in teaching and learning support in university environments and I have a PGCE in Higher Education too. Before coming to Arden, I provided study support for disabled students, so I appreciate the challenges different students might face. I also have a PhD in English Literature, and my background is in creative writing - I have published some poetry and short stories, and my first novel is due to be released next year! Since my hard work is paying off and my life dreams are coming true, I'm determined to help students build confidence, develop skills, and realise their potential too.

I have an MA degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and I am currently doing a PhD on English Language Teaching. I’d be more than happy to assist you in anything concerning your academic studies in our one-to-one sessions or workshops. Please feel free to make an appointment, pay a visit, or write an email!
My name is Lisa Farrant, and I am a Holborn-based Academic Skills Tutor (AST). In 2021, I completed my D.Phil in Media Studies from Nelson Mandela University in South Africa. My doctoral research focused on how radical environmentalists are using digital technology to spread their message and gain support for their cause. In addition to interests in cultural and media studies, I am passionate about working with university students to improve their understanding of academic discourse, as well as helping them to gain confidence within the university context. I have worked as a Writing Centre Co-ordinator and respondent, as well as a freelance ESL online tutor. More recently, I was a Programme Manager at the IIE’s Varsity College in Cape Town, South Africa, before moving to the UK, where I have worked as a tutor on Holmes Institute’s Pathways programmes. I am now happy to be a part of the Arden team. I look forward to working with you and improving your understanding of the world of academia!
My name is Ya-chien and I am one of your Academic Skills Tutors (AST) based in Tower Hill. I completed my PhD in Communication Studies from Loughborough University in 2007. My passion towards culture and society has led me to a career in social research and international education. Following that, I worked in higher education in Taiwan and Kaplan International College in London, teaching academic English and writing skills to students from foundation courses to pre-doctoral programmes. Away from work, I enjoy crafts, gardening and home improvement. Feel free to ask questions and I look forward to supporting you in your studies.

Hi, I’m Christopher, and I’m the Academic Skills Tutor responsible for distance learners. I hold a Master’s Degree in Comparative Literature and I am passionate about language and writing. I am the current holder of The Canterbury Christchurch International Poetry Prize and enjoy running workshops and 1:1s to support students developing their expressive and analytical writing. Before joining Arden, I lectured in English Language at a Further Education college, and I’m a keen (if erratic) tennis player and long-distance runner. I believe that academic writing should be clear, efficient, and – don’t laugh – beautiful. I look forward to helping you express your ideas with clarity and confidence!
My name is Kevin Myers. I am one of your Academic Skills Tutors (AST) based in the Tower Hill centre. I hold a PhD in Sociology from the School of Sociology at University College Dublin (UCD) and an MA and BA from University College Cork (UCC). As such, I have extensive experience supporting students in their path through HE, whether supporting post-graduate students or those returning to university after a long break away from formal education. My academic research interests surround meaning, mental health, well-being, mortality, grief, dying and all things subjective (earning me the unfortunate branding of ‘Dr Death’ by friends and family). I consider it a great privilege to support you here at Arden University and be available to assist you with your studies in any way I can.
