It’s Day #20 of Arden Library’s Appvent Calendar and today we’re looking at our incredible business intelligence databases Orbis and Orbis M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions). Orbis is the world’s most powerful comparable global data resource on private and public companies and contains information on more than 4 million companies across the globe. If there’s a large company you want information on, Orbis should be your go-to platform.

Orbis will default to company search and once you select a company, you can choose the level of detail you need; the Complete book will give you the most comprehensive overview, and the KYC (Know Your Customer) book and summary will each give you a different, briefer set of information. You can download each of these in Excel or PDF format, and you can set up alerts for companies you want to be kept updated on. No matter what you’re after, you’re sure to find all the key facts and figures you might need such as company profile, turnover and key financials, stock and earnings estimates, corporate ownership information, and lots more, making Orbis the most authoritative source of current company intelligence. Once you’ve searched for one company, if you search for another Orbis will ask if you want to replace your current search or add to it, giving you the option to easily compare multiple companies.

You can also conduct comparisons using the Tools menu, where you can analyse groups of companies through statistical and data visualisation methods such as pivot and peer analysis, and aggregation. The Tools menu also contains options for you to conduct analysis of stock data and create a maps to illustrate the distribution of groups of companies according to specific variables.

Orbis M&A uses the same interface and is the ultimate solution for searching and analysing intelligence on global mergers and acquisitions, containing M&A, IPO, private equity, and venture capital deals and rumours. If there’s a historical, recent or current deal you want to know about, Orbis M&A has got you covered with all the key data you might need

An essential for Leadership and Management students, these databases are also incredibly helpful for any student wanting industry insights and context and business analysis for their assignments and areas of research. You can click on the little blue question mark at the top of the screen to be taken to a help menu containing interactive walk-throughs, recorded videos, online guides and workflow scenarios to really help you get the most out of these platforms.
