I have degrees in English and Linguistics and have been working at universities in the area of English for Academic Purposes for over ten years. I have lived and worked in the UK, the Middle East and South-East Asia and have been fortunate enough to teach students from 41 different nationalities. I am a second language speaker of French and understand the joys (and frustrations!) that come with communicating in another language.
Based in Berlin but originally from Bath, I have a degree in English and Master’s of Education. I have worked as an English for Academic Purposes teacher, sociolinguistics lecturer, examiner and a business communication trainer across many countries in Europe. Having lived in France, Spain, Turkey and Germany, I’ve developed a real passion for languages. Currently, I’m learning Hungarian and find it refreshingly challenging to learn a language from scratch!
Originally from Portugal and based in London, I joined Arden University in 2023. I have a degree in English Language and Literature and a post-graduate degree in Teaching English for Academic Purposes. I have been an English teacher since 2003 and have taught in Portugal and the UK. I enjoy using technology to design learning experiences that engage students with their learning. I hope to meet Arden students face-to-face or online very soon!
Originally from Liverpool, I have had careers in dentistry, acting, broadcasting and teaching. I lived in Oman for 12 years, then Spain for 7 before coming back to the lovely county of Staffordshire about 5 years ago. I have degrees in English Language and 19th Century Literature, and my Master's is in Applied Linguistics. My specialisation is in discourse analysis but more recently, I have been focusing on academic writing skills and some of the challenges faced by students. I speak Spanish, French and Catalan, and have been learning Welsh since I got married 30 years ago. So far, I can only ask for ‘ 4 fish and chips’ with any confidence, but I can buy a train ticket to that really long place near Anglesey.
Description/bio: Born and raised in the USA, I’ve been teaching English for Academic Purposes in Berlin since 2017. My experience seeing students often struggle with writing at the university lead me to complete a Master’s in Academic Writing Development and Research in 2021. Before becoming a teacher, I worked in documentary film and television in New York City. Today, I enjoy working with university students to explore issues of language, identity and technology.
I have a degree in English Language Teaching and have been teaching for over ten years. I’m originally from Manchester, but have worked in Vietnam, Spain, Italy and the UK. My second language is Italian and my favourite thing about speaking another language is that it gives you access to another culture and perspective on the world
I’m originally from Yorkshire, but for the past 18 years, I have lived and taught English in Spain, France, the Czech Republic, the UK, and Qatar. Nevertheless, I only really mastered Spanish as a second language. I have degrees in Modern Languages, Teaching English and Psychology. I’m also a self-proclaimed word nerd and love researching the etymology (origins) of words and expressions.
I’m originally from Hastings but have lived and taught the English language in London, Warwickshire and Milan. I had a wonderful time in Italy. As well as enjoying all the good things the country has to offer, I experienced the rewards and challenges of improving my own additional language skills. I have a degree in Modern Languages and a Master’s in English Language Teaching with a specialism in English for Academic Purposes. I also have an interest in psychology and counselling and have experience in this area working with children and young people. I joined Arden University in March 2024 and am looking forward to working with students from many different nationalities.
I began English language teaching in 2006 in Madrid, Spain. After moving back to the UK in 2015 I started my Master's in Applied Linguistics and TESOL and since then I have been working in the higher education sector in the North East. I joined Arden in 2023 and I am looking forward to helping you build your language skills so you can get the most out of your degree and learning journey.
My passion for and career in the English language have taken me across continents, allowing me to study and teach in American, Syrian, German, and now British academic settings. This diverse experience has enriched my teaching approach, enabling me to connect with students from various cultural backgrounds and learning styles. This journey led me to earn a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics, equipping me with a profound understanding of language acquisition and effective teaching strategies.
My aim is to not only impart linguistic or academic knowledge but to inspire a lasting love for and appreciation of the English language in my students, just as I have personally experienced along my path through life and education.
I am from the US but have been living in the UK since 2013. Additionally, I have lived and taught ESL and EAP courses in Kenya, Argentina, and Saudi Arabia. Along with a CELTA and a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching English for Academic Purposes (TEAP), I have a BA, MA, and a PhD in English. While I currently reside in Oxfordshire, I am attached to Arden’s Birmingham campus.
I live in London and have been teaching English to international students for fifteen years. I also lived and worked in Italy for four years, and so have first-hand experience of how communication in a second language can be both fun and maddening! I have degrees in English and in English Language Teaching
I'm originally from near Birmingham and am now back living in the area after spending 5 years teaching English in Tokyo, where I also studied Japanese. This helped me to understand that learning a second language is very difficult but also rewarding! I've also done some teaching in Spain and Italy and have recently completed a master's degree in Applied Linguistics and TESOL. I'm looking forward to helping you to achieve your academic goals!
