Library Databases

Academic Search Complete 

Multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 8,500 full-text journals. 

APA PsycArticles  

Provides access to 119 journals, including the APA’s flagship publication, American Psychologist. 

APA PsycBooks 

Provides access to the most current library of APA-published scholarly books, including all of the reference titles in the APA Handbooks in Psychology Series. 

APA PsycInfo 

Indexing and abstracting database published by the APA. It Contains over 4 million records of globally published books, journals and dissertation abstracts. 

BAILII 

The British & Irish Legal Information Institute contains British and Irish case law and legislation, European Union case law, Law Commission reports, and other law-related British and Irish materials. BAILII is a free resource but note it may not be as up to date as databases such as Westlaw UK. Check the status of any Act to see if it is provided in its original version, or if it has been revised. 

BibliU

Provides access to the Key Texts for your programme all in one place. You can use BibliU online and offline using a web browser or a mobile app for Android or IOS and as this is your own personal Library you will also have the ability to highlight and take notes.

A multi-disciplinary collection of e-books aligned to Arden’s programmes.  

EBSCO eBook Collection

GALE Business: Insights

Gale Business: Insights provides users with detailed financial, historical, and current event information on over 400,000 companies, industries, and countries. Users can easily find Plunkett Reports, SWOT analyses, case studies, comparison charts, scholarly journals, and more.

Gale Power Search

GALE Power Search is a cross-search platform that enables users to do one search across multiple GALE databases.

Gale Research Complete

Gale Research Complete contains a wealth of resources including Gale eBooks (books and encyclopaedias), Gale Academic OneFile (journals), Gale General OneFile (magazines), Gale OneFile News (current newspapers), Gale Literature (English literature resources) and Archives Unbound (primary historical sources). 

IBIS World 

Access to thousands of industry research reports, providing students with the same industry intelligence and tools used by companies around the world. 

Legal Source 

Full-text database covering Law and Criminal Justice. It provides detailed indexing for legal journals, law reviews, yearbooks, institutes, statutes, bar association publications and university publications and contains more than 490 full text journal and magazine publications. 

Legislation.gov.uk 

Legislation.gov.uk carries most (but not all) types of legislation and their accompanying explanatory documents.  All legislation from 1988 is available (with a few minor exceptions). Legislation.gov.uk is a free resource but note it may not be as up to date as databases such as Westlaw UK. Check the status of any Act to see if it is provided in its original version, or if it has been revised. 

Lexis Library 

Provides access to a collection of highly regarded journals, loose-leafs, e-books and practitioner texts. The collection includes the Family Law Journal and The Family Court Practice (The Red Book).  

MEDLINE 

An authoritative bibliographic database containing citations and abstracts for biomedical and health journals.  

Newswires 

Provides near real-time access to top world-wide news from Associated Press, United Press International, PR Newswire, Xinhua, CNN Wire, and Business Wire on a continuous basis. 

SAGE Journals Premier Collection 

Provides access to journal titles across a range of Psychology and Counselling sub-disciplines including, Developmental, Child and Family, Clinical, Social, Cognitive Psychology and more.  

ScienceDirect Freedom Collection 

ScienceDirect provides access to the scientific, technical and medical journals of Elsevier and participating publishers. It contains more than 18 million articles and book chapters from over 2,650 peer-reviewed journals and 42,000 e-books, including books, book series and major reference works, and digital archives that reach as far back as 1823. 

Statista

Statista is a data and statistics platform that consolidates more than 1 million statistics over 80,000 topics from more than 22,500 sources.

Westlaw eBooks 

A collection of practitioner texts covering a range of legal areas including Company and Commercial, Employment, Contract, Employment, EU & International, Family and Social Welfare, Human Rights, Intellectual Property, Tort and more. 

Westlaw International 

Provides access to International Legal Materials from countries including Australia, Canada, European Union, Hong Kong and Korea. 

Westlaw UK 

One of the major databases for case law, legislation, and commentary. It has the full text of the official Law Reports series and contains material back to 1220 via the English Reports. Westlaw UK also provides a ‘case analysis’ document for UK cases providing information about the case and where it has been judicially considered, and where it links to relevant legislation and commentary.  It also provides access to European cases and international case law. For legislation, it contains the fully consolidated full text of Acts since 1267 and selected Statutory Instruments since 1948. 

World LII 

The World Legal Information Institute: provides free, independent and non-profit access to worldwide law including a country by country listing (for constitutions, cases and legislation etc.)

British Society of Criminology

American Psychological Association (APA) 

APA is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States, with more than 121,000 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants, and students as its members. APA also has 54 divisions in subfields of psychology. Their mission is to promote the advancement, communication, and application of psychological science and knowledge to benefit society and improve lives.   

BACP 

The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy is a professional association for members of the counseling professions in the UK. The main purpose is to protect the public and help them find therapists they can trust. They aim to reassure clients, the general public, and employees that a BACP practitioner adheres to high standards of proficiency,   professionalism, and good practice. 

BPS 

The British Psychological Society is a registered charity that acts as the representative body for psychology and psychologists in the UK. It is responsible for promoting excellence and ethical practice in the science, education, and application of this discipline. 

Contributing to Society Developing psychology Serving psychologists | EFPA 

EFPA is the umbrella organization in Europe for national psychologists’ associations and currently comprises associations from 38 European countries, including all 27 member countries of the European Union. It has a long tradition of developing psychology, contributing to society serving psychology by promoting and protecting the profession at national and European levels. It sets a European standard of education, professional training, and competence in psychology.                               

Professional Standards Authority 

They help to protect the public through their work with organisations that register and regulate people working in health and social care. They do this by delivering highly effective oversight of regulation and registration of professional healthcare workers with a clear focus on quality improvement, effective financial management, equality and diversity, and investment in the people. The regulators set standards of competence and conduct, check the quality of education and training courses, maintain a register and investigate complaints about professionals on their register.

Hansard - UK Parliament 

The official report of all Parliamentary debates. You can find Members, their contributions, debates, petitions and divisions from published Hansard reports dating back over 200 years. Daily debates from Hansard are published on their website the next working day. 

Lawbore Law Link Directory 

Lawbore is a family of sites that include a link directory, a multimedia tutorials site, a blog, an e-learning hub, an events calendar, and a legal design gallery. 

UK Parliament 

Parliament examines what the Government is doing, makes new laws, holds the power to set taxes and debates the issues of the day. The House of Commons and House of Lords each play an important role in Parliament's work. Parliament is there to represent the public interests and make sure they are taken into account by the Government. The Government cannot make new laws or raise new taxes without Parliament's agreement.
